Lockton is seeking a skilled consultative communicator to create, manage and deliver consultative advice and custom communications to our clients. The successful candidate will have deep benefits communication experience, people and project management skills, flawless writing ability and the ability to provide creative direction to a team of professional communicators. Projects include communication campaigns, newsletters, presentations, brand development, mobile content and publishing, executive communications and supporting collateral.


Client Management:

  • Work directly with clients to define project scope, gather necessary information, and set shared expectations regarding content, design and deadlines
  • Provide strategic planning and consulting advice to clients regarding audience segmentation, messaging, medium selection, and distribution channel management
  • Work with clients throughout development to ensure new direction is incorporated, questions are answered and collaborative environment is maintained

Project Management: 

  • Serve as lead creator of all content
  • Provide clear messaging and creative direction to copywriters and designers; serve as a liaison between creative talent and the client
  • Create and maintain client communication plans & editorial calendars
  • Initiate, review and edit creation of client communication projects through in-house and freelance resources
  • Work with internal partners (Producers, strategic consultants, benefits service teams, traffic managers, copywriters, proofers and graphic designers) to ensure commitments are met and deliverables exceed client expectations
  • Manage editorial process for clients through content development, review and editing to ensure clarity and adherence to style and brand standards
  • Ensure error-free delivery of commitments by following established proofreading procedures, operating system spell checks and using available reference materials for proper grammar, punctuation and proper sentence structure
  • Achieve the desired output by editing art and copy with 100% accuracy and consistency using nomenclature, proper grammar, usage, punctuation, type specs, typography, grids, folios and pagination
  • Review each stage of development to ensure that all marked internal changes and client changes are done accurately and with no newly introduced errors
  • Serve as point of contact for client vendors, including health & welfare and communication vendors


  • Organize the team calendar, assign responsibilities, and keep team on task for deliverables
  • Able to attend evening and lunch events with clients to build ongoing relationships
  • Participate in internal office meetings as required
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, English or closely related major
  • A minimum of eight years full-time experience in communications (employee communication, benefits communication, corporate communication, public relations, marketing, or advertising)
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Strong knowledge of social media, mobile communication tools, including nomenclature
  • Strong working knowledge in use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Working knowledge of design (graphics formats, color models, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of AP Style
  • Excellent writing, proofing and editing skills with a passion for accuracy and detail
  • Exemplary grasp of the English language, including sentence structure, punctuation, paragraph formation, and grammar and proofreading skills
  • Ability to apply and enforce client established brand and style guidelines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of total rewards, including compensation, medical plans, dental and vision, life and disability, etc.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly productive and collaborative environment through strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
