The preferred candidate will possess significant business and operational experience running and executing on business strategies, partnering with the COO and leadership team and business units to create a strategic and executable vision to support sustained growth in a rapidly moving environment.

 

The candidate should have the skills to build a human capital strategy aligned with, and supporting, a double-digit growth business.  Within the overall responsibilities will include an active role in leading our LocktonLife efforts in each of the six areas of focus (Telling our story, Appreciating our team, Developing our team, Welcoming our team, Growing our team, Engaging alumni). This is a “roll up your sleeves” position and requires the candidate to be partner to the managers and not a “point and direct” individual.

 

This position will report to the  Chief Operating Officer and work with the Lockton’s corporate Human Resources and Legal teams on significant matters.

 

This position will foster and maintain a world-class work environment and, in partnership with Central Human Resources in Kansas City, will lead all the HR talent management and development functions including HR strategy, HR policy, diversity and inclusion, associate engagement, the execution of company compensation and benefits program, recruiting, employee relations, training and development, separation management, and succession planning. In addition, the Vice President, Human Resources will partner with Lockton Legal and Central Human Resources on matters with significant Legal implications.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead an HR team: Mentor and develop a team of HR professionals in various areas of HR specialty; provide substantive technical advice and knowledge to support the development of team members.
  • Interface with executive teams to develop strategies and drive results: Collaborate with the senior leadership team to develop resourcing strategies supportive of Lockton Texas’ aggressive growth goals.
  • Recruit, hire, develop, and cultivate a world-class organization: Own all aspects of recruiting, retention, engagement, compensation, performance management, and other key elements of building and maintaining a world-class team.
  • Interface with the team:  Collaborate with managers within the organization, locally and at the center of the company, to ensure effective recruiting and retention strategies.
  • Retain and engage: Develop and manage a growth-focused total rewards program that attracts, retains and engages employees with a diverse set of skills and demographics.
  • Other: Provide leadership in resolving grievances and workplace disputes.

 

 

Specific Expectations

Within the first 12-months this candidate will be fully engaged to achieve:

  1. A Human Capital team in place consisting of the VP Human Resources, an HR Generalist, full time recruiter and full time associate development/training resource to support double digit growth and sustain/improve our Best Place to Work scores and, more importantly, build and maintain a vibrant and growing workforce.
  2. Develop and implement a formal 0–3 year, 3-8 year, 8 years and beyond onboarding and development plan for all Associates supported by formal and informal learning opportunities.
  3. An internship program that sources a diverse pool of qualified entry level candidates with a culture that attracts and retains Associates with diverse and varied background,  thoughts, and education.
  4. A Leadership team that actively supports and nurtures a culture that rewards professional development and results for clients above all else [BJ1] and recruits and retains the Associates who execute for those clients.
  5. Formal goal setting process in place that provides associates with expectations for their role and how they are performing against those criteria.
  6. A Standardized process for talent management and succession planning across the business.

 


  • 10+ years of organizational leadership experience with demonstrated competence in multiple HR functional areas.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management/Human Resources or a related field preferred; Master’s preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR Certification preferred.
  • Generalist background with broad knowledge of employment, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations, and training and development.
  • Proven experience successfully leading and directing a team of HR professionals.
  • Passionate about creating a workplace that retains and attracts highly talented individuals.
  • Pragmatic thought leader with strong integrity who has proven success operating within a fast-paced, growing business environment. The position requires someone who is committed to maintaining a culture of respect and results in a growing, goal-oriented organization.
  • Knowledgeable of regulations, industry trends, best practices and applicable laws regarding human resources.
  • Excellent facilitator who is experienced in resolving conflicts between different parties to a dispute. 
  • Possess strong collaboration skills and the ability to work across boundaries locally and nationally
  • Possess strong relationship building and influencing skills in conjunction with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exhibit initiative and can be resourceful and creative while maintaining flexibility.  He/she will be a leader with a strong sense of urgency and drive to execute on objectives.

  • Experience with Diversity & Inclusion programs 
  • Must be a well-organized and self-directed individual, who is a team player.
  • Ability to travel, as needed, to the multiple locations throughout the Texas Series
  • Ability to travel by automobile and aircraft
  • Ability to efficiently organize work and manage time to meet deadlines
  • Understands industry trends and governmental regulations
  • Ability to complete continuing education requirements as needed
  • Ability to attend company, department and team meetings as required, including industry training sessions
  • Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures, proactively protecting confidentiality of client and company information
  • Ability to work on a computer for a prolonged amount of time
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours as needed
